What's New

For 28 years St. Charles Singers have shared our love of choral music with the world. Along the way we found you and you have supported us. Thank you! We love to look back at the roads we’ve traveled together, but this year we’re excited about looking at all that is new!

SING!

Presented for the first time in July of  2011, Sing!  was part of St. Charles’ inaugural Summer Theater Festival. The workshop brought 54 teens from 16 area high schools together to spend a day perfecting the art of small ensemble singing.  The workshop concluded with a community concert which featured the teens in ensemble performance and culminated with an awe inspiring, mass choir performance including both students and staff.  Our first Sing! was a stellar success. Look for Sing! again on Thursday, July 19, 2012.  Individual coaching sessions will begin at 8 am and will be scheduled at 20 minute intervals.   The workshop runs from 10 am to 4:30 pm with a dinner break (included) and a community conceret, 7 pm in Baker Memorial United Methodist Church.   Watch this site for more information soon or email execdir@stcharlessingers.com.

Holiday Children’s Concert

We added a fourth Candlelight Carols performance, a delightful Children’s Concert held on December 3, 2011 at 3 pm.  The Children's concert featured many traditional carols, sing a-longs and a visit from Santa.  We want to know what you thought.  Email execdir@stcharlessingers.com.

Coming Up Next:

Mozart Journey IV in March will feature three beautiful motets K 273 Sancta Maria, K 189 Sub tuum praesidium and K 277 Alma dei creatoris and K220 Missa Brevis in C major.  It will include two wonderful instrumental divertimentos K 131 and K 138.  Baker Memorial United Methodist Church, our home performance venue in St. Charles, IL is an acoustic gem and visually stunning to be in.  Holy Family Catholic Church is considered to be one of the finest places in Chicago to make music.  It is a church of immense beauty and the perfect place to hear Mozart. The convenient, free parking is an added plus!

The season’s conclusion will be May’s calming Music for a While, an eclectic grouping of secular and sacred music for choir. Works by Henry Purcell, Claudio Monteverdi, Nils Lindberg, Gabriel Faure, Cecilia McDowell, Benjamin Britten, Claude Debussy, Herbert Howells and Australian composer Joseph Twist will be included.  We will feature a special guest artist and harpist Stephen Hartmann.  Our audience will again be able to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Baker Memorial Church or can appreciate the performance in the classically beautiful Fourth Presbyterian Church on Michigan Avenue in the heart of Chicago's Magnificent Mile.
