W. Alan Berg Memorial Scholarship
Al Berg was a graduate of St. Charles High School and very active in the choral program. He went on to become one of the founding members of the Mostly Madrigal Singers, now known as the St. Charles Singers, in 1984 and sang with the group until 1990.
Al loved music and people. He was generous with his talents, his time, his friendship and his dedication to sharing quality music. Although Al was a terrific soloist, he most enjoyed being part of an ensemble. He worked for the benefit of the group rather than the glory of himself.
After Al passed away in September of 1991, his parents, William and Marilyn Berg along with St. Charles Singers, decided to establish a scholarship that would be offered to a student from St. Charles East High School that most exemplified some of the qualities that Al possessed as a member of the fine arts community. We are pleased to offer this award annually and hope that it will enable aspiring students to continue in the study of choral music. The application deadline is May 1, 2008.
The 2008 recipient of the W. Alan Berg Memorial Scholarship is Monica Bertrand of St. Charles East High School.
Congratulations Monica!
